Learning to Unlearn

Students are usually taught by the ways that have been taught for generations. At one time they may have been successful in helping students learn, but after learning and realizing that not all students are the same nor do they learn the same. Instead of continuing with these same methods and material we should adapt to a new generation and differentiate.

To become a successful educator, teachers need to unlearn unsuccessful habits. Instead of teaching the exact same thing, the exact same way, teachers should take charge with their own style and provide different ways to help their students achieve their higher potential. Also, teachers should unlearn that every student should be assessed at the same level. Differentiation is the key to a successful classroom.

  1. I think you worded this very nicely, I agree that as an educator we need to see that children are different and have different needs!

  2. This post what right to the point and you didnt add anything that was unnecessary. You gave some examples as to what we need to learn and unlearn. I liked the picture as well thought it went in nicely with your post.

  4. You are completely right, and I agree with Mona, that differentiation is this new pathway that teachers need to learn while unlearning some of the old methods.

  5. Obviously, teaching methods have changed drastically over the years. I would expect that every single one of us that are currently going through education courses would of course follow the new methods being taught to us. Every student is different so of course we would need to do things to reach each student on their own level. The end result still needs to be the same, students are being prepared to pass standardized test, this is the true test that all teachers will face. I think that learning to unlearn is just a complicated way of saying we need to use different methods in our teaching.
